In a world where art is often seen as a privilege, we at Thudippu Dance Foundation believe in something simple, yet powerful : art belongs to everyone!
As a part of our ongoing collaboration with aikyam, we have recently opened a branch in Mattancherry. At aikyam space, our classes are not just about learning dance. They are about creating a space where people can feel seen, valued, and are free to express themselves without fear of judgment or discrimination. Rooted in the idea of “Art for All,” we conduct dance and movement sessions for people from socially and economically backward backgrounds across Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, ensuring that access to art is never limited by caste, gender, age, or financial status.
For many participants, these classes are their first opportunity to explore movement, performance, and creativity in an encouraging environment. Some arrive with hesitation, some with curiosity, and some simply looking for a place where they can belong. What grows within the space, however, is much larger than dance itself : confidence, friendship, self-expression, and community.
We strongly believe that art has the power to heal, connect, and transform lives. Dance becomes a language here ; one that goes beyond social divisions and allows people to move together as equals. In every class, we make conscious efforts to ensure inclusivity. Children, youngsters, adults, and people from different walks of life come together in the same room, learning from one another and sharing the joy of movement.
Our sessions at aikyam are designed not only to teach technique but also to nurture creativity and emotional freedom. Participants are encouraged to explore their own stories, voices, and identities through art. Performance is not treated as a competition, but as a celebration of individuality and togetherness.
Fort Kochi and Mattancherry have always carried rich cultural histories and vibrant communities. Through these classes, we hope to contribute to that cultural spirit by making artistic spaces more accessible to everyone, especially those who are often excluded from such opportunities.
At the heart of everything we do is this simple belief: everyone deserves the chance to learn, grow, and perform.
Art should never belong only to a few.
It should belong to all.
